Where is Rory Gallagher the best of all time. If you havent heard of him you are missing out on the greatest guitar god of all time.

Bar L. said...

Anon, I am seriously ashamed of this slip up. Of course I know who Rory is and agree that he was phenomenal. I will add him this moment. I can't believe no one else noticed before now.

Barbara(aka layla)
This site is great, I have told you in the past that I have a Clasic Rock website on-line and link to this blog. I asked if it was okay but did not receive an answer.
FYI:
Keith Moon text, there is a typo on his birthdate. Should be, Keith John Moon (August 23, 1946 – September 7, 1978).

Randy Rhoads was killed on march 19th 1982.

The driver of the tour bus was also a pilot. (not a pilot for the band) in fact, his medical certificate was expired meaning his license was not valid.

http://home.flash.net/~ulknatme/pilot.htm

The idiot driver/pilot Andrew Aycock, was under the influence of cocaine. Not only while he drove the bus but while he was flying as well.

http://home.flash.net/~ulknatme/accinc.htm

The report from the NTSB stated the plane's left wing wing hit the tour bus (it was found beside the bus) cart-wheeled through a tree, and into a garage where it exploded on impact.

Hallo -Great list. I wanted to mention that I met Laura Branigan once. She lived in a building where my then-boyfriend lived. He spoke to her regularly and told her one day that his girlfriend was a huge fan. One day, while at his flat, the bell rang. I opened the door and there she was. I didn't recognise her at first, but once she spoke, I quite nearly wet my pants! I giggled and fussed like a twit, then told her that I loved her music. We talked a bit. Lovely woman. I passed her a few times on my way from my boyfriend's flat, and said a quick "Hallo,Goodbye." She died about 7 months later. I cried.

Barbara,
As you know the end of the header is cut off. Also what has bothered me for a while, the "cause of death listing" is Black text on an almost Black background. Difficult to read.

Bar L. said...

Anon, thanks for the reminder. I fixed it. What's the saying "ask and you shall receive"? :)

I wish I had a better banner, or a better template for that matter.

Thanks for your input.

Anonymous said...

Barbara,
Anon again...you certainly changed the banner and text quite quickly.
Thanks, and the new banner looks fine for this blog. I still have a link on my site to this blog, I thank you for that also.

Take care...

Bar L. said...

Anon, hey I don't mess around :)

I do want an entirely new template banner for this site. Its funny, its the one closest to my hear but I just can't seem to find a design I like for it.

Just a note-- on your list of artists to add you have both Randy Wolfe and Randy California. They are one in the same. Randy California was Randy Wolfe's stage name.

When Randy was in Jimmy James & the Blue Flames with Jimi Hendrix there were 2 guys named Randy in the band... One was from Texas and the other California. To keep the two straight Hendrix referred to them as "Randy Texas" and "Randy California." When Randy went on to form Spirit he kept the stage name that Hendrix had given him and he kept that stage name for the rest of his musical career (until his untimely demise).

This site is so important Barbara...your dedication to it is amazing.

Thanks for the shout-out...It is a dubious honor to get credit for informing you of another soul added to the greatest band in heaven.

Another addition (sorry, I know I'm keeping you quite busy)

Kevin Gilbert
(November 20, 1966-May 17, 1996) (auto-erotic asphyxiation)
Gilbert was discovered by his manager who was stopping by to tell Gilbert he was able to get him an audition with Genesis to replace Phil Collins as their lead singer. Gilbert wrote or co-wrote most of the material on Sheryl Crow's debut album, Tuesday Night Music Club.

In 1990 Kevin Gilbert teamed up with producer/keyboardist Patrick Leonard (who had produced Madonna, Peter Cetera, and Michael W. Smith to name a few) to form Toy Matinee. They released one album that was essentially shelved by the record company.

Kevin released one solo album, Thud and was working on a concept album, The Shaming of the True at the time of his death. His friend Nick D'Virgilio finished the album at the request of Kevin's family and friends after Kevin's death using demos Kevin had recorded and notes he'd left behind at the time of his death. A handful of recordings have been released independently by his estate in the years since his passing.

Sheryl Crow wrote and dedicated the song Sad Sad World to him.

Thank you for the history lesson. I really liked Jeff Healy. Hopefully The true king of the slide guitar will stay "STILL ALIVE AND WELL" Keep on rockin Johnny.
Some of these losses effected me more than others. Wendy O, And Jimi in particular.

Warrior, thanks for the comment! Its sad adding names to this list, but I want to keep the memories alive. :)

KrippledWarrior said...

I had to dig out my memory to come up with a couple for your list. Louis Armstrong, Skitch Henderson, Buddy Rich and Gene Krupa.
Can I be more eclectic than that?

Tom Evans, another Badfinger suicide tragedy, early 80s.
